What kind of systems do you see most in Verdun?

Verdun's homes are mostly units in plexes and small apartment buildings (47.2% in buildings under five storeys, 21.4% in duplexes), which rarely have forced-air ducts. Ductless heat pumps and electric heating suit that setup. About one home in five is in a building of five storeys or more, where in-suite equipment follows building rules.

Homes and buildings in Verdun

Almost half of Verdun's homes (45.7%) were built in 1960 or earlier, and 62.4% of households rent (2021). The typical building is a two- or three-storey plex with winding staircases and balconies, and apartments like these rarely have forced-air ducts. That favours ductless heat pumps, and it makes the outdoor unit's location a real question, because the borough restricts what can go on a front façade.

Before an outdoor unit goes in

Verdun requires a permit for a permanent heat pump or air conditioner. Units must be at least 1 m from every lot line. On a front façade they are allowed only on buildings with 13 or more dwellings, and a side-wall unit must sit at least 2 m back from the front wall. Check the permit with the borough before installation; we size and place the unit to meet it.
